Berat

The AADF began implementing Berat BID in partnership with the Municipality of Berat along Republika Boulevard and Teodor Muzaka Square in October of 2013. The new BID zone will include a Visitor Center which will provide information for tourists on a variety of sites like the Berat Castle, Mangalem, Gorica, Osum Canyons and Tomori Mountain. The four components of the project are infrastructure enhancement, entrepreneurship and business development, creation of the business association and cultural and eco-tourism improvement. Infrastructure work was completed in October 2014.

    Better View and Safer Access for Tourists to the Osumi Canyon

    On 1st of June was organized in Çorovoda, Skrapar, the inauguration ceremony of the two Panoramic Balconies over Osumi canyon, a joint investment of the Albanian-American Development Foundation (AADF) and the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP). The ceremony was attended by the AADF Co-CEO, Martin Mata, TAP Albania Country Manager, Shkëlqim Bozgo, the Mayor of Skrapari, Nesim Spahiu, representatives from local organizations and businesses and residents. The total investment is 132,115 EUR, including the construction of the two balconies, supervisions and tourist signage.

    The construction of two viewing platforms will allow tourists, visiting the Skrapar area, to have safe access to a bird’s-eye view over the canyon. Now that the two Panoramic Balconies, “Flag’s Panoramic Loop” and “Bride’s Hole”, are completed, it is expected that the town of Çorovoda and the surrounding Skrapar area will attract even more tourists throughout the year, further supporting local communities.

    The construction works for the Panoramic Balconies of Osumi River started in October 2016.

    “Flag’s Panoramic Loop” and “Bride’s Hole” panoramic balconies are expected to be visited by over 15.000 tourists per year.

    On 1 February 2017, AADF organized the Board Meeting of the Business Association for BID Berat. The meeting was attended by the representatives from Berat Municipality, the businesses association in this zone and the representatives from AADF. During the meeting, the parties discussed and approved the actual budget for 2016, the draft budget for 2017, the plan of activities of the association for 2017 and the proposal by the Berat Municipality for financial support for activities on the day of the carnival dated 25 February 2017.

    The Multicultural Festival of Berat

    The Multicultural Festival of Berat

    Minister of Culture, Mrs. Mirela Kumbaro, Co-CEO of the Albanian – American Development Foundation (AADF), Mr. Martin Mata and Deputy Mayor of Berat, Mrs. Teuta Mucogllava announced today the beginning of the Multicultural Festival of Berat.  The festival will help promote the unique cultural heritage values of Albania.

    The AADF has been co-financing this Festival for the third year in a row as one of the most important and professional events for the City of Berat.  The Foundation works closely with the BID Berat Association, which provides logistical and infrastructural support for this Festival as well as provides businesses with the calendar of events.

    This event will take place in the BID Berat area during July 21 – 23, and will include various exhibitions, musical concerts, book fairs, agro business and handicraft activities, and many other activities.

    The AADF has invested more than 2.1 million USD in the BID Berat area. Apart from financing for the reconstruction and improvement of the Main Boulevard and Square of the city, the AADF will continue to support the Municipality of Berat by building a playground for children and also helping to construct some touristic balconies which will provide views of the canyons of this area.

    Completion of Construction Work in the Berat BID

    The AADF Board Chaired by Michael Granoff, Prime Minister Edi Rama, Deputy Prime Minister Niko Peleshi, and Mayor Fadil Nasufi inaugurated the completion of the infrastructure work in the newly created Business Improvement District (BID) along Republika Boulevard and Teodor Muzaka Square in Berat. BIDs are public-private partnerships that are publicly supported, privately managed organizations created to improve the physical environment and enhance public services and investments in urban areas. The AADF has contributed $2.1 million dollars to this project and is partnering with the Government of Albania, the Berat Municipality and businesses in the area to revitalize the center of Berat. The main components of this project are: infrastructure improvement, business development, leadership development through the BID Association PPP and support for cultural and eco-tourism.

    Multicultural Festival Takes Place in the Center of Berat

    The Berat Municipality organized a three day festival in the city center which included an artisanal and agribusiness fair along the pedestrian BID Zone.  A conference on cultural heritage took place at the Onufri Museum, with a focus on the sites of Berat.  Other highlights from the festival included musical performances by Dren Abazi and the Zig-Zag Orchestra, a Berati little painters exhibition, and a videoart projection by Professor Vladimir Myrtezai Grosha.

    The construction work along Republika Boulevard and Teodor Muzaka Square in the Berat City Center was inspected by the Albanian Prime Minister, Mayor Nasufi, Mr. Sarapuli and Mr. Mata. Expected completion of the infrastructure portion of the newly created BID zone is set for October 2014.
